These Are the Most Jaw-Dropping Campervan Campsites in America

If you’re plagued with wanderlust and always looking for the next fantasy destination to put on your bucket list, join the club. We look at hundreds of campsites each week for our guests, so you can trust that we have searched high and low for the most jaw-dropping campsites (campervan accessible, of course) that look like they’re straight out of a fantasy novel. We’re talking elaborate, weird, quirky, and crazy sites that genuinely are worth the journey. Websites like Airbnb host tons of these properties under their “OMG” tab, but what about those of us who prefer staying smack-dab in the middle of the great outdoors?

All of the sites we’ve compiled definitely have that same wow-factor for adventure travelers, if not an even bigger one. When it comes to trying out van-life, sure, you can park and sleep in any old Walmart parking lot — it gets the job done fine. There is something truly special, however, about waking up in nature’s glory, having your breath taken away by your surroundings. These campsites — which are mostly private, rentable properties on Hipcamp — go beyond the call of duty. We put together a list of sites that promise complete immersion in nature, but also give you the experience of a lifetime.

Private Beach Farm - Santa Barbara, CA

This historic site was once home to the largest orchid farm in the world, and now it’s a fantasy-like oasis on the coast for travelers from all walks of life. The full property feels like a secret wonderland: multiple greenhouses, various farm animals, beach shacks, and access to a nearly always-empty beachfront (except for some seal pup friends).

While it might be a long drive from one of our outposts in Austin, TX or NYC, it’s certainly a property that would make the drive out to the west coast completely worth it.

Sierra Circles Sculpture Garden - Murphys, CA

This site is unique and lively, as it’s home to a sculpture garden constructed by Berlin-born artist Michel Olson, with new installations consistently popping up around the property for travelers to gaze at. It’s home to a winery, blacksmith school, ceramics classes, and more. The property is a retreat for the creative hearts and minds across the country to indulge in relaxation in its purest form.

Zion Wright Ranch Eco-Camp - Springdale, UT

Off-grid and overlooking Zion National Park in Utah, this site is for the free spirits who can’t get enough of backcountry hikes and nights under the stars. Waking up around the red-brown-tinged rocks and looking out over the expanse will be an unforgettable experience, and even more so should you choose to add-on some of the ranch’s experiences to your booking, like onsite horseback riding lessons from the father of rodeo superstars, Bill Wright.

Mono Loco Flats - Southern Colorado

It’ll be just you and the Mount Blanca at this site, but to be honest, what more do you need with a view like that? This campsite rounds out our list because of the complete peace and quiet afforded to travelers who book one of the best-kept secrets in the middle of the Sangre De Cristo mountain range. Aesthetically, the long stretch of peaks and valleys is unbeatable, and the little slice of land is more than enough to make you stop and think about how small we are compared to nature’s beauty.
